- YOU MUST THINK LIKE THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY
- If it needs doing, then do it. By following this example, employees will understand you are not just a "dump & run" manager. If you make decisions like you own the company, your employees will respect you. Your decisions will be difficult at times, however, they will be the right decisions.
- DON'T BE AFRAID OF CHANGE
- It is ten thousand times easier to get employees to buy into new concepts if you and all other managers have bought into the new concept. Not all change is going to be for the best. We must, however, remember that an organization at rest stays at rest, and an organization in motion stays in motion.
- BE A CONDUIT OF INFORMATION FOR EVERYONE
- One of the top concerns of employees is that management keeps us in the dark. The more your employees know, the better the organization will work together. No one likes to work with someone who keeps everything to themself. Share with others and they, in turn, will do likewise. You must remember that employees are sometimes the experts in a particular area.
- BE A COACH
- Ask your team who wants to replace you. This will get a lot of shock waves at first. However, once the dust settles, one or two members will emerge as your protege. There is no better feeling than seeing someone you have coached excel. Help others whenever and however you can. You will be amazed at how much you grow when you take a little time to coach someone.
- UNDER-PROMISE AND OVER-DELIVER
- Most managers think this is just for customer service. Wrong! This applies to everything you do and everyone you deal with your customers, your team, your management, and yourself. You should always be striving to do one step better than before. By following this method, you will undoubtedly grow in both your professional power and you personal power.
